- Hows that? Maybe if you don't READ/WRITE anything at all it's faster. If all
- your doing is scanning message headers really quick it's faster. All I do is
- Click on DOALL from the ConnectTHOR program, I have it open up 6 network
- sockets. It grabs all the New Messages in the newsgroups I want it to do that
- in, which is most all of them. It grab's my E-Mail and sends anything. I don't
- even have to be around, though it doesn't take all that long anyway, Under 5
- mins Usually Unless I havn't been on for a few days.
-
- I can then come back to my computer and just quit my internet connection.
- That frees up my phone line for other things. I can then just startup THOR,
- and I can tell it it just zips though messages quite FAST. Expecally on my
- new 1083 Meg Drive I just got.
-
- Oh sure I could just log on my shell account and use pine and tin, and be
- online, and just zip on though messages, but sorry to say it's still much
- faster this way in the long run. If it wasn't, what use would a offline
- reader be?
-
- By the way there is a ONLINE option in thor. You can go into the System
- Config and switch frm TCP to TCP_ONLINE. Which HEY, if you have another
- phone line just for your computer, and/or connected 24hra a day, then hey,
- ONLINE is just fine.
-
- Reading your messages online doesn't send less Information then it does if
- your read the same message Offline. It's the same Message. Either it gets
- sent so that it's displayed to read it, real time, or sent to your system to
- be temp. stored on your own computers HD. So I really don't get this
- ONLINE=FASTER crap.
